Harbour Way on schedule
The first section of ‘Harbour Way’ has been officially opened to the public this week on schedule.
The news has been welcomed by Council Leader, Ali Thomas. He said, “This is a significant step forward in this major project.”Harbour Way will bring huge benefits to residents and businesses in Port Talbot and heralds a new chapter in the history of the town.
“It will shape the future of regeneration in Port Talbot, linking key employment sites and opening up land for development along the waterfront.
“It will also complement the Council’s regeneration aspirations at Aberavon Seafront and Port Talbot town centre.”
John Skentelbery, Project Manager for Costain, said, “The opening of the first section of the Harbour Way distributor road marks the end of a very successful and productive year for the project in 2011.
“With several other areas along the scheme due to open to the public within the next twelve months, we are happy to confirm that our workforce are on programme, with the road still on target for an Autumn 2013 opening.”
Residents are reminded that a purpose built visitor centre is open every Wednesday from 1pm – 6pm where an exhibition showing the route of the new road is on display as well as a DVD showing a virtual ‘fly through’ of the completed project.
